Dynamic entrepreneur Ken Barker merged his passion for people with his wealth of experience and formed Barker Insurance Brokers in 1973. Together with his wife Bev Barker and colleague Liz Steele, Barker Insurance had its humble beginnings in tiny offices in the Johannesburg CBD.

Installing “old school” values and getting to know each client personally has been the cornerstone of Barker Insurance and the business has grown from strength to strength. A turning point for the company was moving the personal insurance portfolio to Hollard Insurance in 1986, where a new standard in service and claim settlement emerged.

Barker Insurance then introduced advanced administration and IT systems that gave the company a competitive advantage and has contributed to a paperless ˜green™ office environment. Since its beginnings Barker Insurance has effectively extended its family circle to an efficient, motivated team and Ken Barker, in particular, is delighted at the new levels of service excellence.
